FMC Announces EPA Registration of New QuickSilver® T&O Herbicide Uses

Aids in the Control of Moss on Bentgrass Greens and Tees

FMC Corporation.

Philadelphia, PA (July 26, 2005) – FMC Corporation (NYSE: FMC) today announced that the Environmental Protection Agency has registered new uses on the label for QuickSilver T&O herbicide. The revised label covers three new uses of QuickSilver:

(1) For golf - on bentgrass putting greens and tees to control silvery thread moss, Bryum argenteum,

(2) To control broadleaf weeds 7 days after emergence of turfgrass in newly seeded, sodded or sprigged areas, and

(3) To control broadleaf weeds on stone-covered yards.

Previously of concern only in moist areas receiving low light intensity and mild climates, silvery thread moss is invading intensively managed putting greens in many areas of the United States. This may be due to the removal of mercury based fungicides, lower mowing heights, reduced nitrogen levels, over-irrigation, shade, and poor air circulation. While some of these contributing factors may be managed, in order to maintain faster greens, chemical control measures, such as the use of QuickSilver T&O herbicide, may be necessary.

The active ingredient in QuickSilver, carfentrazone-ethyl, makes it powerful, yet one of the most environmentally sensitive herbicides available. It does not impact birds or earthworms, and is unlikely to harm honeybees, or predators and parasites. QuickSilver is tough on weeds, but soft on grasses, including Bermuda grass and St. Augustine grass.

Always read and follow label directions.

FMC also announced the availability of a new Best Management Practices (BMP) publication, describing the appropriate use of QuickSilver for this golf application.
