NPDN Governance Committee Report NPDN Regional Network Meeting Notes |
NPDN National Meeting 2007 Poster Abstract Authors: CAROLYN KLASS, E. Richard Hoebeke Affiliations: Cornell University, Ithaca, NY USA In June 2004, large numbers of crane flies were noticed emerging from turf on a golf course in Lockport (Western NYS). They were identified as Tipula oleraceae Meigen, previously reported from the Pacific Northwest. This was the first record of this Old World crane fly in eastern North America. By August, 2004 word had spread, and other golf course superintendents were looking for crane flies. In Lewiston, NY another species of European crane fly, Tipula paludosa Meigen was identified. Both species were primary targets for the National CAPS survey. Authors describe distribution, biology, life cycle, economic importance and characteristics for identification of these two species.View Poster
