CCA Continuing Education Credits Now Available Online through the Plant Management Network

St. Paul, MN (October 20, 2004) – The Plant Management Network (PMN), an innovative website designed exclusively for agricultural professionals, now offers Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to Certified Crop Advisers (CCAs). PMN’s Education and Training Center currently includes 10 self-study modules, with a potential of up to 14 CEUs. Credits are available in crop management, nutrient management, pest management, and soil and water management. Others will be added in the future. Descriptions of the current self-study CEUs and further details can be viewed at www.plantmanagementnetwork.org/edcenter.

The CEUs available from the PMN Education and Training Center were created to fit the needs and busy lifestyles of Certified Crop Advisers," said Miles Wimer, PMN director. "PMN’s self-study materials are relevant science-based articles, provided by qualified authors, and are available "24/7" on the Internet. There’s no need for travel expense and PMN’s online testing is designed to fit each CCA’s own schedule," Wimer said.

All study materials are included as part of PMN’s overall low-priced annual subscription. In addition to the CEU offerings, PMN subscriptions include several other resources for agricultural professionals. These include four science-based applied journals —- Crop Management, Plant Health Progress, Forage & Grazinglands, and Applied Turfgrass Science —- an image database, three field trials publications, a plant science database of over 4,000 fact sheets and other web-based resources, and a monthly newsletter. Those interested may subscribe online by clicking the "Subscribe" tab at www.plantmanagementnetwork.org.

PMN CEUs are earned by passing a 10-question online examination with a score of 70 percent or better. The exams are administered nationally by the Iowa State University Crop Adviser Institute, which requires a nominal processing fee per CEU to cover scoring of the exam and filing of the CEU credits with the ICCA.

PMN is a not-for-profit forum for applied, multidisciplinary, science-based, plant and agricultural management information and communication made possible by PMN partners. PMN partners include Syngenta Crop Protection, Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., Campbell Scientific, Inc., PBI / Gordon Corporation, twelve nonprofit organizations, and 20 land-grant universities. A complete listing is available under the "Partners" tab at www.plantmanagementnetwork.org.
